1. West Bengal plans to promote new tourist spots on PPP mode
Making a strong pitch to make West Bengal a top tourism destination in the world, Babul Supriyo, State Minister, said that the government with the participation of stakeholders like tour operators was determined to bring more people from other parts of the country and the world to the state’s several unique locations and attractions.
2. US mission in India announces new initiative to cut visa wait time.
On January 21, the US Mission in India launched the first in a series of special Saturday interview days, to reduce wait times for first-time visa applicants. The US Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad all opened consular operations on Saturday for applicants who require in-person visa interviews.
3. Agra tourism industry upbeat as SC lifts ban on number of flights.
The apex court has now modified its earlier order which put restrictions on the new air terminal and the number of flights, till surveys for air pollution safety were conducted. Industry leaders say that the number of tourists arriving directly to Agra from major cities in India.
4. 39 new airlines took to skies in 2022.
Nearly 39 new commercial airline operators took to the skies globally in 2022. This includes Akasa Air (passenger) and Pradaan Air Express (cargo) in India. Over the past three years, the number of airline deaths and dormancy fell. While 15 airlines ceased operations in 2022.
5. Zanskar Winter Sports and Tourism Festival to begin on January 28.
Tentatively starting on 28th Jan and ending on 15th Feb, the main events will include skiing, ice climbing, ice hockey, ice skating, snow sculpting, archery, snow-yak riding, snow scooter-riding, and a food festival showcasing the local culinary style of the region. Helicopter services will also be available for tourists.
6. Qantas expands codeshare agreement with IndiGo, adds eight cities.
Under the second phase of the agreement with IndiGo, Qantas customers can now travel to an additional eight cities, bringing the total number of Indian destinations available for connection from Delhi and Bengaluru to 21. Qantas customers will also have more choices across IndiGo’s domestic network .
7. Goa Tourism dept. orders action against foreigners’ illegal market at Arambol beach.
Goa Tourism has requested the police to file an FIR against unknown foreigners’ local citizens under Section 188, for violation of activities related to selling of terns/goods from unauthorized handcarts/movable carts and unauthorized hawkers at Arambol beach.
