1. Sri Lanka sees increase in tourism earnings in first quarter of 2023

Sri Lanka has witnessed an increase in tourism earnings with around $530 million being received in the first three months of 2023, according to the latest data from the country’s central bank. In the first three months of 2022, Sri Lanka earned $482.3 million from tourism. Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is aiming to attract 2 million visitors in 2023, compared to the previous target of 1.5 million.

2. Assam has potential to become a major yoga tourist destination: Ayush Minister

Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently said, Assam has the potential to become a major Yoga tourism destination in the country. Assam has successfully hosted two major Yoga Mahotsav in successive years. “Ministry of Ayush has identified areas of tremendous potential in the state and Yoga is one of them”, he informed.

3. Bihar to develop wildlife reserves in Munger range.

To promote tourism in Bihar, the forest department is making efforts to develop wildlife reserves in the Munger region. “The Munger forest range is an ideal place with plenty of animals. I admit that it is lacking in basic amenities. We want to develop a quality eco-friendly tourist complex to attract tourists to the region,” said Divisional Forest Officer, Munger Range.

4. PM Modi inaugurates new integrated terminal of Chennai International Airport.

New terminal has been developed at the cost of 1,260 crore. The new building will increase the passenger serving capacity of the airport from 23 MPPA to 30 MPPA. The terminal is a striking reflection of the Tamil culture, and among its unique features is the Skylight which allows natural light to be harvested for illuminating the space inside the building.

5. Saudi Arabia reveals new temporary work visa system.

The temporary work visa will be issued immediately for three months through the Qiwa platform and does not require any documents. The visa can also be extended for a similar period. The request must be submitted by the business owner or a commissioner on Qiwa business.

6. Kenya targets 10 million tourist arrivals in next 5 years.

Francis Gichaba, Chairperson, Kenya Tourism Board, said the country will align its marketing initiatives to achieve the goal gradually by 2027. He said that in the first two months of 2023, Kenya registered 293,440 international tourist arrivals, up from 184,228 recorded in Jan-Feb 2022.
