1. Singapore Airlines (SIA) to temporarily increase seat capacity from Kolkata.

SIA currently flies daily from Kolkata, operating its 154-seater B737-8 aircraft from Tuesdays to Fridays and its 303-seater A350-900 aircraft every Monday, Saturday and Sunday. SIA will now operate daily A350-900 services from 14-23 October 2023 and again from 26-30 October 2023, thus increasing SIA’s total capacity from Kolkata by 22 per cent over the Durga Puja period.

2. Indians will be able to make payments in rupees via UPI in France: PM Modi.

“India and France have agreed to use UPI in France. In the coming days, it will begin from the Eiffel Tower, which means Indian tourists will now be able to pay in rupees,” PM Modi. This means that Indian tourists visiting France will now have the convenience of paying in Indian rupees. With UPI, they will no longer need to carry large amounts of cash.

3. Dubai witnesses 23 per cent higher visitor arrivals from January to May.

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) dialed up its efforts to showcase the destination through B2B travel trade engagements across India, including metro cities, tier II and III markets in the first half of the year. The results thus far have been outstanding, with Dubai experiencing a remarkable 23 per cent increase in overnight visitor numbers during the first 5 months of 2023 compared to 2019.

4. India ends random COVID-19 testing of international travellers.

The Union Health Ministry has further eased COVID-19 guidelines for international visitors, dropping the earlier requirement for RT-PCR based testing of a random two per cent subset of international travellers. The new guidelines shall come into effect from midnight of July 20.

5. Indian students studying masters in France to get 5-year post study visa.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris, announced a longer post-study work visa for Indian students in France. Modi said that France has decided to grant a long-term five-year visa for students pursuing a master’s degree in France.

6. Andhra Pradesh tourism department to develop 373 beaches along 12 districts.

Locations to develop these beaches have been identified in the districts of Srikakulam (69), Vizianagaram (14), Visakhapatnam (32), Anakapalli (35), Kakinada (22), Konaseema (20), West Godavari (10), Krishna (26), Bapatla (33), Prakasam (23), Nellore (63) and Tirupati (26).
