1. Mount Kailash to become accessible from India September onwards.

BRO has started the work on cutting the road from KMVN Huts in Pithoragarh district to Lipulekh pass on the India-China border, which will be completed by September. After the completion of the road, ‘Kailash View Point’ will be ready along the road. Hirak Project has been given the responsibility of developing ‘Kailash View Point’.

2. PM Modi inaugurates International Exhibition-cum- Convention Centre IECC, names it Bharat Mandapam.

The revamped IECC complex at Pragati Maidan was developed at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore and has a campus area of approximately 123 acres. The complex is India’s largest MICE destination and in terms of the covered space available for events, the complex finds its place among the top exhibition and convention complexes in the world.

3. Russia to launch electronic visas for Indian passports holders from August 1 at US $40.

Russia will launch electronic visas from August 1, 2023, and will allow entry into the Russian Federation on a guest, business, tourist visit as well as to participate in events. Single-entry visa will be no more than four calendar days and consular fee would be around $40.

4. Rail Europe launches Eurail Greek Islands Pass.

The Eurail Greek Islands Pass allows travellers to explore the Greek islands such as Mykonos, Santorini and Crete via national ferry lines Superfast Ferries, Minoan Lines, Grimaldi Lines, Blue Star Ferries – for 4 domestic travel days, as a mobile pass. The pass is available via Travel Agency.

5. Chopper service to connect Lucknow to Prayagraj, Kapilvastu in Uttar Pradesh.

Kapilvastu and Prayagraj are significant in the context of religious tourism. For this, dedicated heliports would be set up to offer a range of services for the passengers and crew. The UP Directorate of Tourism has invited ‘Expression of Interest’ for the development, operations, and maintenance of heliports.

6. India and Sri Lanka agree to Popularise Buddhist circuit and Ramayana Trail.

The bilateral document released by MEA reads, “To promote awareness and popularize India’s Buddhist circuit, and Ramayana trail as well as ancient places of Buddhist, Hindu and other religious worship in Sri Lanka for enhancing tourism.” The bilateral document was released as PM Modi and Sri Lankan President.

7. Kerala launches social media bidding game ‘Holiday Heist’ to woo tourists.
